Like many, I’m waiting with anticipation for December 9, 2005 — the release of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe.  My first memory of the "Chronicles" is grade 6…everyday our teacher would read a chapter to us (that was likely the most focused time of the day, at least for me).  I later read them on my own, and am currently re-reading them in preparation to see the movie.

There is a lot buzz going on about the movie, and not just from loyal Disney fans.  Many churches are wanting to take advantage of this opportunity and do some evangelism (read this story for more details).  I’m not one to turn down an opportunity to share the Gospel with someone, but this does make me a little nervous.

If the church gets too carried away, as we have in the past, at trying to force the Gospel down the throats of society, we will be no further ahead and will undoubtedly turn many away.  But if we go the right door of the wardrobe, we may succeed!  It love the opportunity to invite people who have seen the movie to a "chat & chow" session.  But let them watch the movie, without trying to discern and decipher any hidden scriptural message and then invite them to the C&C a week or so later.  At least this way, you’re likely to have some who are open to hearing the Gospel and don’t feel conned into accepting Jesus.
