As I mentioned earlier, I spent last week leading St Michael’s Youth Conference. It was a great week! This past week, I’ve been trying to regain some energy (and sleep) and soon I hope to be able to sleep through the night without waking up.
This year, we basically doubled in camper numbers which changed the dynamics a bit. The teens were great and brought many great qualities to the week. For those who don’t know, at St Michael’s, in the mornings we try to impact some basics of the Christian Faith and then in the afternoons and evenings build Christian community through games and small group activities.
I am really happy with the staff that we had this year. It was clear that their focus was on the teens — supporting them and making sure they were having a good time. We went tubing one afternoon (thank you Dugan’s for letting us envade your home), horseback riding another afternoon and finished the week with a big screen movie (have I mentioned that I love the multi-media system we bought?).
I’ll be honest and admit that I struggle with the ending of a camp or event, because typically I add some extra expectations for myself. Quite often these are unrealistic and I usually "hit the wall" after the event. These unrealistic because of the time limitations.
I’ve talked with a number of the campers this past week, and they appear to have had a great time, which is an answer to prayer. We had wonderful weather – warm and sunny, another answer to prayer. I’m still praying for these folks, I really do believe there is the potential for great things to happen through and because of them [if you’re reading this, pray for them too].
These are some photos from the week on our website, click here. Thanks to everyone who prayed for us during the week and a big thank you to the staff who spent many hours preparing and participating in the week, I could not have done it without you!
Dude,
those hats rock.
